Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from that of your full product?

PRELIMINARY TASK

FINAL PRODUCT

Above is both my contents page and Front cover from my preliminary task and my final product. As you can see I have progressed much with my ability of design. These include different aspects such as Background Images, Layout and Main Image. Below I have written about the different aspects.

Background Image of Front Cover
As you can see on my background image I have used the same method to cut out the background on Photoshop however, the background image was roughly cut out on the preliminary task  where as on the final front cover It looks professional. As I used a magnetic lasso tool to select the edges rather than just the magic wand tool I firstly used.

Layout
The layout of my magazine front Cover and contents page is very poorly set out on my preliminary task. On my final produced pieces I have looked into different ways to layout my magazine pieces through looking at other magazine styles.

    • Front Cover- The way in which my front cover of my preliminary task is layered out is very unprofessional. At the time I created the piece, I did not have the knowledge on how a magazine front cover should look like. Things such as the layout of the Title, Sell Line and Main image. All are in a good position but not the best. Compared to the front cover of my finished Magazine front cover. Where I have looked at other magazine styles and copied the way in which they layout their magazine front covers.
    • Contents Page- The way the contents page on my preliminary task is set out is also very unprofessional. It is layered out in rows of different sections of the magazine and too many images to show the articles within that magazine. The way my final contents page product is layered out is very professional as I also looked at different ways other magazines layout their contents pages and copied their styles.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I have progressed very far in the use of Photoshop in terms of the 'design' aspect of everything. I now know how a magazine contents page and Front Cover, Should be layered out. If I was to research more into other styles of magazines I think I would have been able to progress further and create an even better piece of work.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Whilst creating my Coursework, front cover, double page spread and contents page . I have used numerous amounts of different applications creating my work. These are shown below.

Dafont enabled me to find fonts that I have used to make my front cover, contents page and double page spread. They have thousands of different fonts to use at my disposal that where not already existing on my PC. I found fonts that where categorized in the style of my article and was able to find suitable fonts that went with my magazines style.

Blogger has been used to create and publish different sections of my AS-Media Coursework. This has been very accessible across different platforms so I can work on my work away from college.

Powtoon is different way of presenting my coursework instead of using power point to create slides to demonstrate and showcase my work. It has many different animations and is played through a video format rather than slide by slide.

YouTube has enabled me to get help from videos on line with my courswork. I have looked at videos of bands and artists that suit the genre of my magazine. I have also looked at tutorials of how to use photoshop and create my magazine.

Photoshop has been used as one of the main design softwares I have used throughout my AS-Media Coursework. I have had knowledge of using photoshop before starting my magazine and this aided me in the 'creation' process of making my Front Cover, Double Page Spread and Contents Page. It enabled me to produce a professional looking magazine with its numerous tools at hand.

Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your Media Product

The target audience for my magazine is mainly aimed at young adults ranging from ages between 13-18. I think this age range is suitable for this magazine because it matches the genre,The layout of the magazine and the way in which articles have been written out. It is also targeted at an audience that has a keen interest in the Indie/Rock scene and gives them the latest news on festival line-ups, gigs and band gossip. This is a big factor of the magazine as many readers will want to know what bands are playing next. So they can buy tickets and firstly read up on what things are coming next from their favorite bands in the magazine.

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/Address your audience?

The way in which I attracted my audience was in many different ways, I firstly tried to showpiece the type of genre the magazine is, by using various artists and bands in the rock/indie genre in my magazine. Such as: The Vaccines, Kodaline, Maximo Park, The Futureheads and Frankie & The Heartstrings. All included on the front page of my magazine as sell lines. This will show my audience that these bands are included and the magazine is set to a specific audience.

I have addressed my audience informally so that, the Magazine articles are not seen to be too serious. This makes for a better read of the articles as they are more fun to read. Because they include rather profane statements and simple words within the article, included on the double page spread. I have also written on my contents page. An editors note, this is written very informally and has praised the readers for buying the magazine online, and allowing a printed article to be created. The editors note is only brief and consumers can choose not to read it if they want so it is kept short and simple.

I also have used a set colour scheme within my article as the audience is unisex I wanted to keep neutral colours so that they would not be off-put by the magazine being too manly or girly. On my front cover I have used a band that has 3 male subjects as the main image. Their is no particular reason I have used male subjects however, Females may be attracted to them and make them want to buy the magazine just for this reason. On the other hand Males just might like the band and the music they produce.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The audience of my magazine would mainly be Teenagers & Young Adults in a particular social group. That being interested in Rock/Indie genre of music.  They way in which I have shown/written about the bands, people and articles in my magazine is that of a wide variety of that subcultures of that genre. I have not conformed to any specific genre its most a mixture between the two.

Shown below is an example of the style of social group I have tried to base my audience around mostly.

As you can see both have relatively the same style of fashion and have young artist posted on the main image.  Along with many other bands that will appeal to this audience.
